Progress Report #1: It all begins

Progress Report #1: It all begins

Welcome to Midheaven. After almost 30 years of dealing with my wildly disruptive mental health issues (more on that as time unfolds), and the impact that it has had on my closest and dearest loved ones, I am so grateful and humbled to be able to share this glimpse of what we first imagined in 1996.

It is our shared vision to transform the home in Hardwick, VT into a thriving, self-sufficient, sustainable, community-focused center for music, performance, and the fine arts. Our goal is to provide a sacred space for musical & creative experiences, shared studios, residencies, and festivals that support the spirit of life and love in all their disparate forms.

We are starting simply and iteratively with what we have available to us: the house we live in and its attached barn, the dilapidated garage, and an equally disheveled 36’x60’ hen house. So much has already been done to prepare the spaces for transformation. Renovations on the main house have been our primary focus as we prepare for colder weather.

I just started cleaning out the hen house and a space for an artificer’s workshop, which is where the items come from for our weekly yard sales, funds from which are put back into our vision (for example, this domain name and website were paid for with proceeds from the sale on October 4th).

With an eye on sustainable community, and a celebratory and carnivalian spirit, our vision includes:

  • music recording and promotion
  • sculpture/artificing studio
  • fine arts and printmaking
  • ceramic studio and kiln
  • rehearsal and performance spaces
  • livestreaming studio
  • drum circles and celebrations
  • walking and x-country ski trails
  • open studios and tours
  • residencies & festivals
  • cannabis collective & club
  • private retreat cabins
  • overnight tent sites
  • and more

There is a lot of work to do, and we can’t wait to share it with you all as it unfolds.
