First snow at Midheaven

First snow at Midheaven

Despite being on a quest to be more prepared for the liminal periods between seasons and other cycles, the first snowfall of the year is always a surprise. Midheaven represents in many ways an attempt at reclaiming connection to these periods — the cyclically iterative dance of overlapping and looping change that are the hallmark of life. I love this first coating of the snowy down and the muffled stillness it brings with it.

I was able to take some time during lunch today and take some photos that echo my own feelings of the day. The crisp and damp cold of the air reminds us to focus on settling into the landscape of warmth, quietude, and peace in order to go inward and start creating, and so that’s what we’re doing.

Over the course of the next week, we will finish buttoning up the woodshed and pottery spaces for use over the winter to take advantage of the urge to create. Though very rudimentary — plywood floors and bare sheetrock at best — the spaces can be made warm enough to be useful, so we will. Inside the house, Danielle has set up for painting, and I’ve claimed part of the kitchen for pen & ink work.

We continue to build out the space to be able to share what we can as time goes on.
